Mental Health and Wellbeing

'St Paul’s is a beautiful school which cares for the children from the core and this is reflected in the child’s development and learning.' Parent Voice 2024

At Adlington St. Paul's we are passionate about making a difference to the lives of young people.

Learning Together Following Jesus

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart

Community, Hope, Compassion, Forgiveness, Perseverance and Respect

Good mental health and wellbeing helps children and young people:

  • develop

  • attend school

  • engage in learning

  • achieve and thrive

Schools and colleges contribute to wellbeing by providing:

  • a safe, calm, inclusive and supportive learning environment

  • early targeted support for pupils and learners who need help

At Adlington St. Paul's we embed an evidence-based, holistic, whole school approach to promoting and supporting mental health and wellbeing.

Our Senior Mental Health lead is Mrs Julia Burger.

Mental Health Definition

“Mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.”

World Health Organisation, 2018

The Department for Education (DfE) and the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities published guidance on the 8 principles of a whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing. These are:

  • an ethos and environment that promotes respect, and values diversity

  • leadership and management that supports and champions efforts to promote emotional health and wellbeing

  • staff development to support their own wellbeing and that of pupils and learners

  • curriculum teaching and learning to promote resilience and support social and emotional learning

  • enabling student voice to influence decisions

  • identifying the need for and monitoring the impact of interventions

  • targeted support and appropriate referral

  • working with parents and carers

Compass Bloom

Compass Bloom are a Mental Health Support Team. They are an early intervention and prevention service. They support children with mild to moderate anxiety and low mood and we have a dedicated Compass Bloom mental health practitioner who works with our school on a weekly basis.

Below attachments give you up to date webinars and parent and carer workshops led by Compass Bloom.

My Happy Mind

We are proud to say we are a My Happy Mind School.

Children take part in weekly lessons in addition to our comprehensive PSHE curriculum. My Happy Mind is all based around helping children to understand how their brain works and to support them in developing positive skills and habits to be their very best selves. Parents and carers also have their own logins.

If you would like any support or guidance linked to your child's mental health, please contact Mrs Julia Burger our Senior Mental Health Lead
