Investigating: how does sugar affect the teeth?

Lesson: Science

Class: Year 4 Year: 2023 - 2024

Egg shell and enamal have similar properties. So we have set up and tested eggs in different drinks over three days. We have made notes and drawn picture with colour to show any changes over time. We have tested: water, milk, orange juice and coke. Most of us predicted coke to damage our enamal the most because of the sugar levels. However we have found that orange juice has caused the most physical damage to the enamel by chipping away at it. Coke stained the enamel so again causing a physical change just not as erosive. Water and milk are the best drinks for our teeth because they are low in sugar. Milk has many vitamins to keep your teeth healthy.
