Soil testing

Lesson: Science

Class: Year 3 Year: 2022 - 2023

Today we have investigated soil types. We tested three types of soil to decide which type of sil they were: sandy, silty or clay. Due to the weather conditions we didn't go and dig for our own soil but we did use a locally sourced soil. We found that of the three types of soil from our area, one was silty and two were clay. We tested them by adding water to the soil and followed a flow diagram: 1. Can you mould the soil into a ball? If no then the soil was sandy. Then could you flattern the ball but it crumbled - then it  it was silty soil or if it flatterened from the ball without crumbling it was clay.
