What are our joints for?

Lesson: Science

Class: Year 3 Year: 2022 - 2023

Today we have investigated - 'What are our joints are for?' We were each given a straw and a piece of string. We threaded the string through the straw and predicted what would happen if we tried to meet the two end of teh string together. We then forced the two ends together, it was hard and the straw bent. We then predicted what would happen if we cut the straw. Most of us thought the two ends would meet easier as the straw could move. We were correct. We then cut the staw into four and then eight pieces. We discussed the straw being a bone and then by cutting it we created joints which allowed movement and the string being the ligament which connected the bones together. We decided teh more small bones you have in your body the more moevement you have. We also learn't about the different types of joints and their functions.
