Reception have been artists and each painted a Starry Night Sky π©π¨ next week we are going to see if we can improve our paintings and evaluate them.

We have enjoyed counting 7 friends on the bus!
We explored the composition of number 7 by identifying how many counters are red and yellow. 3 red and 4 yellow...3 plus 4 equals yellow.

Frozen Experiment π§ βοΈπ§
Evil Pea was up to his old tricks and managed to freeze all the vegetables (including himself)!
Reception became scientists this afternoon, to work out how to save the veggies and melt the ice but also keep Evil Pea frozen forever.
They explored a variety of different ways to melt the ice using salt, tinfoil and hot water. They all decided the best way to keep the Evil Pea frozen was by sticking him in the freezer!
Everyone then completed a writing task to write their prediction ‘it will melt’ and identify which method would be the best to melt the ice.
We checked on the veggies throughout the afternoon and identified that the hot water melted the ice the best β

We returned back to a very messy and chilly Reception Class all caused by the Evil Pea. In provision we have independently made posters to help catch the Evil Pea before he causes more chaos.

During our afternoon learning with ‘Sunshine and Sunflowers’ Reception have explored growth and plants through the story Errol’s Garden by Gillian Hibbs. They planned their own community garden for Reception by considering what items and tools we might need such as soil, seeds, trowel, water, plant pots, watering cans!
This afternoon Reception have all helped to plant some seeds and we hope to care for them and see some beautiful flowers and plants blossom ?

Our famous scientist we have researched and learnt about this week is Mary Anning; a famous fossil hunter and palaeontologist who’s findings are displayed and recognised in the Natural History Museum in London! ? ? ? ??
British Science Week: Tractors
We learnt how tractors work, what they do and what materials they are made from. We also explored how tractors are connected to space! ?
A big thank you to our wonderful parent who joined us in Reception to talk about her job as a nurse! ?? We loved looking at real tools and equipment and also shared our own stories of visiting the doctors office and nurse.
We were Nature Detectives and explored the great outdoors using all of our senses????? ? ? We didn’t let the rain stop us as we looked and listened for signs of wildlife, with lots of commenting on the different birds that we spotted and heard. We discussed their habitats and what they would need to make a nest ? ? When asked if we might see a fox and badger in the woodland den, we remembered that these animals are nocturnal and we could see this at night ? ? On our walk we identified the signs of early spring, where beautiful daffodils had grown. We talked about the rainy weather and how this had made the grass super muddy. Some of us commented that we could hear the wind and smell the rain ?? ? #britishscienceweek
09.03.23 - Volcano Experiment, by Miss Walton

Reception enjoyed a science experiment today and explored chemical reactions. This morning during a shared writing task we predicted and each wrote down what would happen during our experiment, with lots of us predicting that the lava would explode. This afternoon we watched the volcano erupting after adding vinegar to the bicarbonate of soda! ? ??
